What do I need to solve this problem?

Directions
Divide the class into groups of three or four students. Each group receives one question. Use your judgement to assign students to questions that are most relevant to their lives. Feel free to make up your own questions. Students work as a group to brainstorm the questions they would need to ask to get the necessary information.

Question #1
You are a single parent with a small child and depend heavily on your welfare benefits. New laws about reforming the welfare system are about to be passed. What questions do you have? Please make a list of all the questions you come up with.

Question #2
You are a parent of a child in the local Head Start program. You find out in May that it is closing for the summer. You have to work during the summer. What questions do you have? Please list all the questions you come up with.

Question #3
You have recently been laid off from your job. You look for job training possibilities and find out that job training funds have been cut. What questions do you have? Please list all the questions you cone up with.

Question #4
A new crime bill is about to be passed that says that children over 18 years of age can be sentenced to death. In addition, there would no longer be separate prisons for adults and children. What questions do you have? Please list the questions you come up with.

Question #5
You are turning 18 this year and will no longer be under the care of DSS. You know this means that some of the services you now receive will be cut. What questions do you have? Please list the questions you come up with.

Question #6
There are plans to build an incinerator (a place where trash is burned) in your community. You have heard that incinerators give off poisonous fumes. What questions do you have? Please list the questions you come up with.
