Try to find the time to check out all of these great links - you'll be sure to find some real treasures and lots of new "favorites" to bookmark for future use.

Below this list of links are some really great books that I use all the time as I plan my adult ed math classes, as well as some commercial games that help develop mathematical problem solving and reasoning skills.

http://literacynet.org/sciencelincs/slnum-number.html Another section of the fabulous site mentioned above, this part sites geared toward adult ed students.
http://literacy.kent.edu/Oasis/Resc/Educ/ANTindex2.html A collection of activities for adult ed math.
http://forum.swarthmore.edu/teachers/ This rich site contains a problem of the week, and if you add "adult.ed/" to the URL you'll get a great list of adult ed math links, including several that are GED-specific.
http://www.cam.org:80/~aselby/lesson.html "Appetizers and lessons for math."
http://www.nctm.org The site for the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. This site has lots of great components, including publications and conference information. I really recommend joining the NCTM, which entitles you to a magazine - Mathematics Teaching in the Middle School is great for adult ed math ideas.

http://www.figurethis.org/challenges/challenge_index.html Interesting challenges at all levels, with new ones added every month.
http://www.visualfractions.com/ Good activities that provide visual representations of fractions.
http://www.eduplace.com/math/brain/index.html New brainteasers added each week, and an archive of all previously-posted brainteasers.
http://curriculumunits.com/Adventure/ Plan a trip to Disney World and estimate the trip cost, decide on a vehicle, figure milage, etc.

Some really good articles involving math numeracy for adults are: Mary Jane Schmitt in vol. 4, issue B Sept. 2000 ; Cynthia Zengler in vol. 2 issue B June 98 ; Esther Leonelli in vol. 3 issue C Sept. 99 ; and Jan Philips in vol. 1 issue C sept 97.
