Prerequisite: |

Preparation: |
If students don't know how to open a document, you may want to do that for them in advance on their computers.
|
Activity |
- Demonstrate selecting/highlighting using two words you type.
Make sure students practice moving the mouse steadily over at least one
or two words or sentences before doing the activity. Consider having at
least one word or sentence up on each person's word processor before you
demonstrate, or have students type their full names.
- Have student pairs or small groups decide on at least two problems which exist in society that
they want to change, for example, drug abuse and not enough adult basic education programs.
- After discussing, have students type the problems on their computers as a list.
- Next, students talk and decide which problem is worse, and highlight
it.
- Students report their results to the class and share why they made
their choices.
|
Variations: |
- Students highlight the problem that they most want to eliminate and
press the Delete key.
- After highlighting, show students how to change font size: They
can decide which problem is bigger than the other, and make the font bigger
for the name of that problem, and make the font smaller of the problem
they decide is a smaller problem.
- Show students that after highlighting that they can drag and move the
highlighted words to another location. Have them double click on a word
to select/highlight it..
