I was completely bored. I was very glad when her film ended. "What a lot of rubbish!’ I said. ‘Now we can see some action!’

The repairman took the cover off and looked inside. ‘It just needs a little oil,’ he said. ‘No problem.’

My wife, Mary, and I sat down in front of the TV. I wanted to watch ‘Batman’, but she wanted to see the final part of ‘Love in the Spring.’

The repairman took the cover off again. There inside was a bent bar of chocolate! ‘No wonder it doesn’t work,’ he said. ‘With that inside, what do you expect?’

I clicked the remote control, but nothing happened. The cassette would not come out of the slot. I got up and pressed a few buttons. Still nothing happened.

On my way home, I stopped at a newsagent’s and bought two small bars of chocolate. I dropped the chocolate into the plastic bag with the video player.

I went back to the shop and put the video player on the counter. 'The cassette won’t go in!’ I said angrily. ‘What did you do?’

I took the video player out and looked into the bag. I could only see one bar of chocolate. ‘You must have dropped the other one in the street,’ my wife said. ‘Never mind. We’ll share this one.’

Luckily there’s an electrical shop just round the corner. I put the video player in a plastic bag and took it to the shop.

I plugged the player in. Then I tried to push the Batman cassette into the slot. No matter how much I tried, it would not go in. ‘What on earth did the repairman do?’ I said.
